Hands-on activities are essential to the learning process especially in earlier years of education. By implementing hands-on activities you are allowing students to explore topics on their own. As well as providing students with manipulatives that can help them have a better understanding of a topic, rather than memorization students become capable of understanding a topic and applying it to real life situations. I believe that all teachers should implement hands-on activities into their lessons to show the students that they can be in control of their own learning.
The hands-on activity I’ve created involves students to create an infinite geometric series using a bouncing ball. Students are given different sized balls and are given the opportunity to explore the rate in which a ball will bounce back after dropping a ball from various heights. In this lesson students are given the opportunity to explore and take control over their learning in a real world situation.
